Sri Lanka’s Sports Minister Urges Jay Shah to Bring the IPL Action to the Island

It’s another year and a new season of IPL is waiting. After wrapping up the auction period, all the franchises are ready with their new squad. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to start in June. IPL is likely to start a little early. The schedule is not confirmed yet. The Lok Sabha election is a concern for the tournament. In between this, reports are saying that the Sri Lankan Sports Minister has requested BCCI to arrange a few matches of IPL in Sri Lanka.

Concerns of IPL 2024:

After ending another successful season in 2023, the Indian Premier League is on its way to another season. The auctions for the upcoming season have been wrapped up on December 19. Some major changes happened ahead of the new season. Some trades between the franchises caught the headlines. After a successful auction, teams are ready to roar in the tournament with strong squads.

But the concern is rising in somewhere else. Generally, the IPL starts at the end of March and ends at the end of May. But this year, the T20 World Cup is scheduled to happen from June 1. For that reason, the tournament is likely to start a little early. But there is a chance of clashing the IPL matches with Lok Sabha elections. The schedules are not confirmed yet.

Sri Lankan Minister’s Request:

In this scenario, a report is coming out. As per the sources, the Sports Minister of Sri Lanka, Harin Fernando has requested Jay Shah to host some IPL games in Sri Lanka. The proposal suggests bringing the electrifying cricket action closer to Sri Lankan fans, creating a buzz of excitement in the cricket-loving nation.

The dicey scenario of finalizing the schedule for the IPL 2024 is still on hold. If we took a turn to the past, we can see previously, that the tournament dealt with this kind of situation. In 2009, IPL was arranged in South Africa. In Covid Scenario when India was unable to host the match, UAE hosted the tournament. Even in 2014, the tournament was organized outside of the country.
